Blake Bortles continues to give Rams fans reasons to love backup quarterback
By Dan Parzych
Blake Bortles giving high praise to Sean McVay just adds to the list of reasons to love the Los Angeles Rams backup quarterback.
During the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams seemed to know early on that Sean Mannion would most likely be on his way out, and while some questioned the decision by the team to go with Blake Bortles as the new backup, this was still an upgrade at the position.
Despite how things played out over the previous five years during his time spent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Bortles seemed like the kind of quarterback who just needed a fresh start on a new team.
After agreeing to a one-year deal with the Rams, Bortles obviously knew that his role would be going from starter to backup since Jared Goff is the one under center, but also the former first-round pick knew how much this situation could benefit his career.
For starters, with McVay having a strong reputation for developing and getting the best from quarterbacks, the goal for Bortles seems to be playing at least one year in Los Angeles before hopefully finding another starting job elsewhere in 2020.
This may sound crazy to even consider at the moment since the main focus for the Rams is on the upcoming 2019 campaign, but deep down everyone seemed to know right away this was going to be the main goal for Bortles all along.
At least for now, Los Angeles should feel much better with their backup quarterback situation since Bortles has the starting experience the Rams will need if Goff were to ever get hurt, although the team hopes that will never be the case.
Recently, Bortles gave Rams fans another reason to love having the new quarterback on board when he gave nothing but high praise for McVay and the coaching staff, describing it as unlike anything he’s ever seen.
As mentioned before, Bortles knew what kind of amazing opportunity he would have by joining a team run by McVay to help elevate his game to a whole new level for a potential future starting job while benefitting the Rams current roster in the process.
No one needs to explain to Rams fans just how special of an individual McVay is after watching what the head coach has been able to accomplish over the last two seasons, but hearing Bortles provide him with high praise as well just makes it all even more enjoyable.
