Only time will tell when it comes to seeing whether Carson Wentz’s new deal impacts talks with the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff.

No matter how much the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff want to avoid the comparisons to Carson Wentz since the two quarterbacks were selected back-to-back in the 2016 NFL Draft, chances are they will be dealing with this for the remainder of their careers.

While many will make the case that Wentz has the slight advantage at the moment for being the better player when healthy, Goff isn’t too far behind him after recently helping the Rams reach the Super Bowl before falling to the New England Patriots.

Over the last couple of months, one of the biggest questions surrounding Los Angeles was whether Goff would receive an extension sooner rather than later, especially with some reports indicating that Philadelphia was strongly considering one for Wentz.

After Wentz received a hefty four-year extension worth $128 million on Thursday, the talks surrounding a potential future deal for Goff just hit a whole new level since the pressure seems like it’s going to be on more than ever.

Even with the Rams making the claim that Wentz’s new deal won’t impact any talks that could take place with Goff since the Eagles are clearly on a different timetable, it’s still difficult to believe this will be the case for the defending NFC champions.

Goff certainly deserves plenty of credit for the way he’s handled all the questions about a potential future deal since the former No. 1 pick is smart enough to know plenty could happen over the next two seasons with him under contract by Los Angeles.

Not to mention, for all Goff knows, the Rams could very well end up deciding to hold off on any potential extension, and simply decide to use the franchise tag down the road to avoid committing to a long-term deal, although that seems highly unlikely.

Looking back at all of those years leading up to the draft in 2016 when the Rams were in desperate need of finding a franchise quarterback to build the offense around, why would they ever want to start over the process?

The last thing Los Angeles can afford to do at this given moment is to make Goff unhappy over his contract situation when other players at his position like Wentz are receiving hefty contracts, so it would seem wise to address the situation as soon as possible.

Deep down, Rams fans are smart enough to know that it doesn’t matter what the organization says about the Wentz deal not having an impact on any talks going on with Goff, because if anything, the extension would seem like it would speed the process up.
