Despite the injury concerns, the Los Angeles Rams should reach out to the Denver Broncos about a potential trade for Jake Butt.

At the moment, the Los Angeles Rams are loaded with depth at the tight end position, but would the team ever consider the possibility of acquiring Jake Butt if the Denver Broncos were willing to trade the Michigan product?

While expectations are high for Gerald Everett based off the fact that he seems to be getting better each season, there were talks towards the end of last year along with the offseason over whether the Rams would ever trade Tyler Higbee.

With all due respect to Higbee, it seems like one of the reasons why the tight end has heard his name thrown around in potential trade talks is due to the fact that Los Angeles views him as replaceable.

In other words, if the Rams were to find themselves in a position where they could upgrade at tight end by replacing Higbee with someone else, would anyone really be all that surprised if Los Angeles made some sort of move?

As for how this relates to Butt, well the Broncos haven’t exactly hinted at the possibility of listening to trade offers for the tight end, but also this is another situation in which they could afford to move on if an opportunity presented itself.

During his final season at Michigan in 2016, Butt was rightfully considered to be one of the top tight ends heading into the draft the following spring, but unfortunately a torn ACL in the Orange Bowl resulted in his draft stock taking a major hit.

Since most teams seemed too concerned over Butt’s injury, it wasn’t until the fifth round of the draft in 2017 that Denver decided to take a chance, even with the understanding of he would miss his entire first season.

Once Butt finally became 100 percent healthy for the following season, the Broncos knew they would need to be patient with their young tight end, but unfortunately it would all come crashing down once again after suffering another torn ACL in late September.

By dealing with the same injury two seasons in a row, it was easy to understand Denver’s decision this past April to select Noah Fant in the draft since Butt’s uncertain status at the moment puts the Broncos in a tough position.

Hearing all these factors would make it seem like the Rams should avoid Butt at all costs, but also Los Angeles has proven on numerous occasions to be up for taking the risk.

Hopefully, Butt can one day stay healthy enough to make some sort of impact at the NFL level, whether it happens to be with the Broncos or some other team.

Maybe if the Rams do decide Butt would be worth taking a chance on, they could end up being that other team since Sean McVay does have a strong history of getting the best from tight ends.

Long shot or not, at least this scenario involving Butt is fun for Rams fans to think about since if there were some sort of way to get him healthy enough to play like he did in college, a potential trade could turn into a major steal.
