Rams should consider rewarding Sean McVay with extension before training camp

Rewarding Sean McVay with a contract extension before the start of training camp wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for the Los Angeles Rams.
While most of the attention this offseason for the Los Angeles Rams surrounding contracts has been on Jared Goff, it’s also been made clear that it’s only a matter of time before Sean McVay is rewarded as well.
With three years remaining on his deal from 2017 that reportedly pays McVay around $4 million per season, the Rams realize they are getting an absolute steal for their head coach, but also that’s not going to last forever.
Never in a million years did any football fan imagine that Los Angeles of all teams would emerge as such a serious threat in the NFC the way they have over the last two seasons, and the best part is the team is built strong enough to continue competing for years to come.
Even though there’s been some hints that McVay would be alright with holding off on a new deal until key players like Goff are taken care of, the Rams may want to consider the idea of taking care of it before the start of training camp in a few weeks.
Between helping Los Angeles win back-to-back NFC West titles along with a trip to the Super Bowl this past February, McVay has quickly worked his way into becoming one of the league’s top head coaches.
Clearly, the risk by the Rams in making McVay the youngest head coach in NFL history back in 2017 has paid off in the best way possible, and Los Angeles already seems determined to do whatever it takes to make sure he remains happy for the long run.
Yes, the Rams have the upper hand in this situation with McVay under contract for three more years, but also where’s the harm in addressing the situation now just to make things easier?
The longer Los Angeles waits in rewarding McVay, the more money they may end up having to spend on their beloved head coach.
So after looking at all of the previous extensions the Rams have handed out dating back to last offseason ranging from Aaron Donald to Todd Gurley, maybe Los Angeles should just bite the bullet by doing the same for McVay before the start of camp.
Otherwise, McVay’s contract situation is going to be similar to Goff’s in which Rams fans are only going to continue talking about it since many believe it should happen sooner rather than later.
