The Los Angeles Rams received great news on Monday about Cooper Kupp being cleared to participate in training camp for the 2019 season.

While most of the attention this offseason surrounding the Los Angeles Rams in the injury department has been on Todd Gurley, Cooper Kupp was part of the conversation as well.

In the middle of last season, it was devastating to watch the Rams lose Kupp after the wideout suffered a torn ACL during a Week 10 battle with the Seattle Seahawks, leaving Jared Goff without one of his most reliable receivers.

Back in 2017, Los Angeles felt pretty confident that Kupp would turn out to be a major steal from the NFL Draft, despite some of the concerns over him playing at a smaller school in Eastern Washington.

Before suffering the injury, Kupp was putting together a career year for the Rams by hauling in 40 catches for 566 yards to go along with six touchdowns, showing just how difficult he was going to be to replace in passing game.

Even with Josh Reynolds stepping up on numerous occasions, the passing game simply just wasn’t the same for Los Angeles without Kupp, and one can only imagine how different the outcome of the Super Bowl would have been with him in the lineup.

On a positive note, most of the updates from Kupp’s injuries this offseason seemed to be positive with the wideout on track to be ready to go for that first game of 2019 on the road against the Carolina Panthers.

Kupp still has plenty to prove over the next month or so when it comes to seeing whether this will actually happen, but at least with Kupp avoiding the PUP list to start camp, this is another positive step in the right direction for the Rams.

In a way, this really shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise with the progress Kupp has been making over the last few months, but also the news is still great to hear.

Deep down, the Rams completely understand the importance of being patient with Kupp throughout training camp and preseason since the last thing they can afford to do is push the wideout too much to a point where he’s more at risk for another injury.

Assuming all continues to go well, Kupp should be able to set new career highs for the Rams during the 2019 season to help put the team in the best position possible to earn another trip to the Super Bowl.

If this does end up happening, maybe Kupp’s presence will help Los Angeles see better results than last February in which they failed to score a single touchdown.

But also instead of jumping that far ahead, the focus will be on the start of camp this week, and how great it will be to have Kupp present.
