After the Los Angeles Rams watched Aaron Donald finish on top of the NFL Top 100 for the 2019 season, could winning MVP be next?

Around this time last year, there was plenty of frustration in training camp for the Los Angeles Rams since Aaron Donald was absent for a second year in a row while holding out for a new contract.

Luckily, Donald has proven to be the kind of player who can still perform at a high level without participating in camp or preseason, which is part of long list of reasons as to why he’s arguably viewed as the best defensive player in the league.

This year, however, the Rams are beyond thrilled for obvious reasons to see Donald present in camp after signing a whopping $135 million extension at the end of last August since this should help the star defender get off to a better start come September.

Despite setting a career high 20.5 sacks last season, Rams fans remember well that it took Donald until Week 4 just to record that first sack, making his total even more impressive to consider.

So after last year’s impressive campaign, one can only imagine what the 2019 campaign will have in store for Donald, as Los Angeles will be looking to earn another trip to the Super Bowl with hopefully better results than last February.

Donald’s impact will obviously be a major factor over whether this actually happens for the Rams since even when he doesn’t get to the quarterback, the extra attention drawn helps benefit some of his teammates.

With that being said, the folks from NFL Network concluded their list of the NFL Top 100 rankings (conducted by the players) for the upcoming 2019 season, and as great as it was to see Donald finish in the top spot, it did come as a bit of a surprise.

Nothing against Donald since as mentioned before, he’s arguably the best defensive player in the league. But when looking at the kind of seasons put together by other players such as Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, it seemed unlikely that Donald would finish in the top spot.

Then again, maybe this really wasn’t that much of a surprise since the rankings were conducted by the players, and it’s no secret to opponents just how terrifying it can be to square off against Donald since he’s an absolute beast on the defensive line.

Now that Donald managed to squeak out the competition on the NFL Top 100, could MVP happen as well during the 2019 season?

Every football fan knows how difficult it is for a player on the defensive side of the football to take some the honors, but also Donald has proven to be a rare kind of player who seems capable of pulling off any task placed in front of him.

Beating out a strong offensive player such as Mahomes or even Drew Brees for MVP (assuming they’re two serious candidates again) for the award isn’t going to be easy.

But if any star defender seems to have the best shot at pulling it off, Donald seems like the strongest possibility.
