Darrell Henderson will hopefully see significant action for the Los Angeles Rams during their second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

During the NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a somewhat surprising move by using a third-round pick on former Memphis star Darrell Henderson, mainly because the offense already had one of the league’s top running backs in Todd Gurley.

When healthy, Gurley has proven to be an absolute workhorse in the backfield, but when seeing how things played out in the winter, the Rams have already made it clear they would be taking a different approach with their star running back in 2019.

Time will tell when it comes to seeing if all the proper scheduling from the last few months will payoff for Gurley and the Rams, but at least Henderson’s presence will help take some of the pressure off.

Even though Henderson still has a long way to go in regards to proving himself worthy of seeing significant action in 2019, it seems like only a matter of time before he officially moves up a few spots on the depth chart.

Nothing against Malcolm Brown and John Kelly, but Los Angeles clearly saw something special in Henderson when they used a third-round selection on the rookie in April, so why wouldn’t they use this to their advantage?

With that being said, since Gurley wasn’t going to be a participant in preseason action for obvious reasons, Henderson seemed to be in position to see a significant amount of carries during the first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.

Instead, Henderson’s preseason debut didn’t exactly go according to plan after the rookie running back was limited to just 13 rushing yards on six carries during the loss to the Raiders.

On a positive note, Saturday is a whole new opportunity for Henderson to bounce back in a strong way, as the Rams are set to play the Dallas Cowboys in what should be a fun matchup for football fans in Hawaii.

A good amount of starters may not be suiting up for this contest, but Saturday’s game will be a perfect opportunity for certain players like Henderson to show they do in fact have what it takes to contribute in a big way during the 2019 season.

Henderson certainly received some benefit of the doubt for last weekend being his first game in the NFL, but hopefully any remaining nerves will be out of his system come game time on Saturday.

Assuming this happens, maybe Sean McVay will find a way to give Henderson more than just six carries since the rookie could arguably use all of the extra carries he can get at this point to help prepare for the real action in September.
