After a strong outing in Week 5, Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams could have their hands full with Nick Bosa when facing the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
If the Los Angeles Rams weren’t already concerned about their upcoming Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, Monday’s game against the Cleveland Browns may have done the trick, especially after watching Nick Bosa.
Back in April when the 49ers selected the Ohio State product with the second overall pick, the Rams knew the addition of Bosa to San Francisco’s defense had the potential to take this rivalry to a new level for years to come.
Even though Bosa has yet to face the defending NFC champions, Monday’s 28-3 win for San Francisco over Cleveland was the perfect example of just how much of a difference maker the rookie defender can be.
Whether it involved recording two sacks on Baker Mayfield or having a little fun before halftime by mocking the Browns second-year quarterback with a flag celebration of his own, Bosa certainly had himself a ball game in Week 5.
Rightfully so, Bosa was considered to be one of the top defensive players from this year’s draft class, and Monday’s win over the Browns for the 49ers is the perfect example of what kind of difference maker he can be on the football field.
Sure, the case can be made that Mayfield and the Browns in general are a work in progress, but this shouldn’t take away from the kind of impact player Bosa has already proven to be at the NFL level.
A few weeks ago, the Rams seemed like they would be the early favorites for their Week 6 meeting with the 49ers, but the circumstances are completely different at this point in October.
Instead of Los Angeles sitting in first place as expected in the NFC West, the Rams are coming off a second loss in a row while the 49ers sit alone in first place with a 4-0 record.
Plenty could change from now until the end of December since there’s obviously no reason to panic after only five games, but watching Bosa stand out the way he did against the Browns should have Jared Goff and the Rams on high alert.
For a quarterback that has already seen more criticism than expected over the last two weeks after recording 117 passing attempts, Goff better keep an extra eye out on the whereabouts of Bosa throughout Sunday’s contest.
Otherwise, Goff could be in for a rough outing similar to Mayfield in Week 6 if Bosa turns out to be too much for Los Angeles to handle.
As previously mentioned, the Rams seemed to have a good idea that Bosa joining the 49ers would make this rivalry even more intense, but watching the rookie defender through five games has been unreal to witness.
With Los Angeles already facing pressure to earn a win over San Francisco to avoid falling further behind in the division race, the Rams better prepare enough for Bosa in Week 6, or Goff could be in for another brutal afternoon.
