It looks like Mohamed Sanu is heading to the New England Patriots, just two days after the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Atlanta Falcons.
Two days after Mohamed Sanu felt the frustration of watching the Atlanta Falcons suffer a fifth loss in a row to the Los Angeles Rams, it appears the veteran wideout is getting a fresh start with the New England Patriots.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Atlanta would be sending the former Rutgers star to the Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick, as Edelman is expected to provide some insurance to New England in the wide receiver department.
Obviously, this trade has absolutely nothing to do with the Rams since the team is clearly set at wide receiver, and has never expressed any interest in Sanu, but it is difficult not to wonder if Los Angeles applied the icing to the cake of Atlanta’s disappointing 2019 season.
Back in Week 2 when they pulled off a thrilling win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Falcons seemed to be on their way to turning things around before going on to lose their next five games, with the latest taking place on Sunday against the Rams.
Clearly, Atlanta was dealing with plenty of issues leading up to Sunday’s meeting with Los Angeles, but watching the Falcons move on from Sanu two days after coming up short against the Rams makes it seem like they’re throwing in the towel on 2019.
Sitting at 1-6 heading into Week 8, it’s tough not to wonder if the Falcons would still have been up for trading Sanu to the Patriots if they actually came through with a win over the Rams since Atlanta would have been in better shape for the NFC playoff race.
Instead, New England turned out to be one team that benefitted in a big way from Los Angeles handing Atlanta a fifth loss in a row to make them realize that being active before the trade deadline to load up on future draft picks could be the best option.
Plenty could still change moving forward since the Falcons could always turn things around, but Sunday’s loss to the Rams was yet another example of how rough things have been in 2019 with no signs of improving anytime soon.
Sanu heading to New England literally has nothing to do with Los Angeles, but in a way, the Patriots should still be thankful towards the Rams handing the Falcons another loss to make them more open to the deal instead of keeping the veteran wideout around.
