By clearing up some cap space after trading Aqib Talib to the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Rams could look to give Jalen Ramsey a new deal soon.

Since reports first surfaced on Sunday, Aqib Talib seemed like the top candidate on the Los Angeles Rams to be dealt before Tuesday’s trade deadline, mainly to help clear up some salary cap space to potentially reward Jalen Ramsey with a new deal.

A few weeks ago, the Rams decided to heavily invest in their future by sending two future first-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Ramsey, but there was some concern over the possibility of losing the star cornerback after the 2020 season.

Not to mention, Ramsey hasn’t been shy over the years about his desire for a hefty new contract since he’s easily one of the league’s best cornerbacks.

With that being said, one of the main reasons behind Los Angeles exploring trade options for Talib leading up to the deadline on Tuesday was due to the possibility of clearing up potential cap space, as previously mentioned.

Now that Talib is heading to the Miami Dolphins, all of the attention surrounding the Rams will most likely turn to when Ramsey could see a hefty new deal just to get it out of the way.

First off, with all due respect to the Dolphins, one can only imagine how Talib is feeling go from a top contender in the NFC to a team in Miami still in search of their first win in 2019 entering Week 9.

Last season, Talib was brought on board while Los Angeles was going through their “win now” phase to put the team in the best position possible to win the Super Bowl, and it nearly almost worked.

And while there was plenty of excitement over the thought of Talib teaming up with Ramsey once he returned from his rib injury, when it comes to the future of the team, keeping Ramsey around is more important.

Most signs entering the 2019 season made it seem like Los Angeles would be willing to move on from Talib once the 2020 offseason got underway since his age, and asking price would seem like too much to keep him around.

So with the Rams being able to save some money by sending Talib to Miami, here’s to hoping this is an early sign of a potential deal coming for Ramsey, whether it happens to be soon or a little bit down the road.
