Kenyan Drake could be unexpected trouble for Rams during Week 13
By Dan Parzych
The Los Angeles Rams could have their hands full on defense trying to contain Kenyan Drake of the Arizona Cardinals.
Following an embarrassing performance against the Baltimore Ravens in front of a national audience, the Los Angeles Rams hope to see their defense bounce back in Week 13 with a favorable matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Despite the Cardinals only having three wins to their name in 2019, the argument can be made that Arizona has turned out to be more competitive than originally expected at times.
Just look at how close the Cardinals came to knocking off the San Francisco 49ers in both meetings this season, and it seems pretty clear that Los Angeles needs to be extra cautious when facing Arizona on Sunday.
Otherwise, the Rams could be at risk to dropping to .500 on the year with a 6-6 record if they finish on the losing end to the Cardinals, but hopefully this doesn’t turn out to be the case.
While the offense will certainly need to figure out a way to elevate their game, the defense will obviously need to play much better as well after looking at Monday’s disaster of an outing.
Not only could Kyler Murray end up causing more problems than originally expected for Los Angeles on defense, the Arizona seems to have found a surprise gem as well in Kenyan Drake at running back.
Leading up to the trade deadline, the Cardinals knew they had nothing to lose in acquiring Drake from the Miami Dolphins to help with some of the injuries at the position, mainly David Johnson.
Right away, Drake wasted little time making an impact for Arizona on offense once he was acquired by rushing for 110 yards with a touchdown on 15 carries during a Week 9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
These numbers may not seem like the biggest deal in the world, but for a running back that failed to even break the 50-yard rushing mark all of 2019 leading up to the contest, this was huge for both Drake and the Cardinals.
Since then, Drake continues to be a great fit for Arizona’s offense, and what’s even more surprising to see is how he appears to have beaten out Johnson for the starting job in the backfield.
Los Angeles already knew their defense would be in for a challenge with trying to keep key players such as Murray and Larry Fitzgerald in check, but with the unit having previous trouble at stopping the run, Drake could be just as much of a threat as well.
