The Los Angeles Rams need to restock team’s roster in 2020 NFL Draft. Projections show an additional 4th round comp pick
The Los Angeles Rams have plenty of items on their action list this offseason. Of course there is a host of coaching decisions to address. One of the first items on the agenda is whether the Rams will part ways with defensive guru Wade Phillips. In fact, we’ve already lined up our top three challenges for the Rams to prioritize this offseason.
But there is more to the offseason than a list of “gotta do”s, isn’t there? There is the excitement and optimism that wells up in the hearts of all NFL fans no matter what the fortunes of their past season. Thanks to the design of the NFL draft, the worst line up first to select a new class of hopeful football prospects eager to begin their professional football careers. And each NFL team has an annual allotment of seven picks, one for each round, to use like currency in the annual NFL Draft.
Ramblin’ Gamblin’ front office
As you likely know by now, the Rams traded their 2020 1st round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars as part of the package to obtain cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The front office felt as though Ramsey would be just enough to get into the playoffs in 2019. They gambled. They lost. In doing so, the team has fewer picks to select young talent this season.
Fewer, that is, until compensatory draft picks are awarded this year. The folks over at OverTheCap.com project compensatory draft picks before each year’s respective NFL Draft. This year, they had originally projected two 4th round comp picks for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Editor’s Note: The originally cited information included the exodus of CJ Anderson in the comp pick calculation. The new algorithm projects one 4th round comp pick to the Los Angeles Rams
Pick and let’s roll
That means the Rams project to have the following picks in the 2020 NFL Draft
1st round – no pick
2nd round – pick 20 (52nd overall)
3rd round – pick 20 (84th overall)
4th round – pick 20 (126th overall)
4th round – projected comp pick (139th overall)
5th round – no pick
6th round – pick 20 (200th overall)
7th round -pick 20 (216th overall)
The Rams project to choose with six picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Right now, the team’s greatest needs occur primarily at the offensive line. But should a highly regarded player fall to the Rams, the team has enough depth in the roster to go off-script and choose the best player available as the opportunity presents itself.
Now that we’ve set where the Rams pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, we can start a series of NFL Draft mock drafts to see how the team’s roster might look next season. You can check out mock draft news for all NFL teams by clicking on this link in the meantime. Stay tuned!
