The LA Rams upgrade passing attack by going big in 2020 NFL Draft round 3.

The LA Rams have a potent aerial attack with Jared Goff at the reigns. But the 2020 NFL Draft is loaded with excellent receivers. If the team finds a solid lineman in the second round of the NFL Draft, they would be free to find another receiver. By drafting the best player available, the overall team talent rises.  Meanwhile, the Rams coaching staff can find ways to implement new targets into the game plan.

Last season, Rams wide receivers Robert Woods (6-foot-0) and Cooper Kupp (6-foot-2) combined for 184 receptions for 2295 yards with 12 touchdowns. Brandin Cooks (5-foot-10) caught 42 passes for 583 yards with two touchdowns. Perhaps the Rams might opt to select a big receiver in the upcoming draft.

The Rams would create all sorts of mismatches in coverages for opponents with a big wide out. There are a few good players that will be available when the Rams make their pick at #84. Here’s a look at a few receivers that would add to the aerial assault in 2020.

Going up

First, WR Michael Pittman Jr. played at the University of Southern California. He stands 6- foot-4  weighing 215 pounds. He might be that big play receiver going across the middle.

Second, Notre Dame WR Chase Claypool would give Goff another big target to throw towards. He stands 6-foot-4 weighing 228 pounds. Just imagine the Claypool lining up as the slot receiver, how would the opposing secondary deal with his size?

Finally, Collin Johnson, from the University of Texas, is the biggest of these three receivers. He stands 6-foot-5 weighing 220 pounds. Johnson played collegiality in the Big 12 Conference. He is well adapted to the type of offense that the Rams employ.

Huge upside, literally

Any of these three receivers would add value to the Rams passing game. Most of all, they would draw attention from the opponents and free Woods and Kupp to work more freely downfield. Matchups are very key in today’s NFL. Sending four receiver sets would give QB Goff more targets, adding more “oomph” to the passing game in 2020.

The Rams should look to add more size to their receiving corps. Creativity in the passing attack goes a long way in winning games. Let’s see if they decide to go receiver in the third round.
