LA Rams former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will coach next season, responding to Jim Everett
When LA Rams retired NFL quarterback Jim Everett posed a question to former Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, you could tell the question and answer would be a lot of fun. To be honest, I could almost hear Chumbbawamba’s “Tubthumpers” begin playing in the background:
“I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down.”
To nobody’s surprise, it delivered. While the question and answer seem harmless enough on the surface, you cannot help but wonder if the answer was somehow a rebuttal to the LA Rams head coach Sean McVay for refusing to bring Phillips back for the 2020 season?
It was an organized social media event courtesy of Wade Phillips to reach out to his many fans, supporters, and followers during his recent dismissal from the LA Rams. While the Rams are now searching for his replacement, Phillips took to Twitter to interact directly with fans. One of the first questions posed came from retired LA Rams quarterback Jim Everett:
Q: Coach (@sonofbum), if & when you ever retire, what’s one thing you’ve always wanted to do (besides football) but haven’t yet? #AskWade

A: Alway s appreciate your support, but retirement is not on the agenda. Might be a heckuva pop warner defense out there 😂 pic.twitter.com/djTX81EQgQ
Phillips did not hesitate in denying any interest in retiring in the foreseeable future. In fact, his response seemed to have a touch of “prove them wrong” defiance as he insisted he would be completely ready to coach next season.
He also shared his thoughts about the 3-4 with Ramblin’ Fan, insisting it is the best defensive scheme to pressure the quarterback. His gave a ringining endoresement to LA Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, claiming he is a “sure fire hall of famer!”. And when asked which three players would he build a team around, he name Rams DT Aaron Donald, Houston Texans DT J.J. Watt, and Denver Broncos OLB Von Miller as his cornerstones to a defense.
