LA Rams: Senior Bowl running back target for 2020 NFL Draft day 3.
By Larry Brake
LA Rams should have these Senior Bowl running backs on their draft board for day 3 selections
The future of the LA Rams rushing attack needs attention in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Rams feature back, Todd Gurley, may or may not be included in the future plans of the offense. Whether to fill a potential hole in the roster, compete for playing time, or simply learn from one of the NFL’s finest rushers, there are several Senior Bowl running backs worth consideration on day 3 in this year’s draft..
Gurley will cost the Rams $17.250 million in salary cap space this season, according to spotrac.com. But that salary cap hit climbs all the way up to $25.650 million if they decided to move on from him. His current contract expires in 2024, when he becomes a free agent .
The Rams will be looking to restructure his deal, especially if the team doubt’s his ability to return to his 2017-18 form. In the meanwhile, the front office needs a soundproof plan to get better at the running back position. To do so, the team must find a younger, less expensive replacement to run the ball, preferably among the hopeful young athletes entering the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Senior Bowl will be featuring several backs with the potential of playing at the next level. Will they fit the needs of the Rams offensive philosophy? Here’s a look at a few:
Four Senior Bowl RBs worth a late round draft selection
First, running back Darius Anderson played four seasons at Texas Christian University. Anderson stands 5-feet-11 weighing 212 pounds, a nice sized back who can withstand an NFL workload. In college, he carried the ball 430 times for 2418 yards with 18 touchdowns.

He averaged 5.6 yards per rush. In 2019, he caught 22 passes for 128 yards to average 5.8 yards per catch. LA could make him a seventh round selection.
Second, RB/WR Antonio Gibson played two seasons for the Memphis Tigers. Gibson stands 6-feet-2 weighing 221 pounds. He might possibly be missing piece of the Rams offensive puzzle.
At Memphis, he played as a wide receiver catching 38 passes for 735 yards. He ran the ball 33 times for 369 yards. He is listed as a running back on the Senior Bowl South roster. That hybrid role is intriguing enough to generate interest in team scouts. Keep him on your radar.
Third, RB JaMycal Hasty played running back at Baylor University. He stands 5-feet-9 weighing 205 pounds. Hasty is your prototypical third down back. Think C.J. Anderson, only much younger.
At Baylor, he had 465 plays from scrimmage for 2483 yards with 16 touchdowns. Most importantly, he averaged 5.3 yards per play. He knows how to move the chains downfield.
Fourth, RB Eno Benjamin played three seasons at Arizona State University. Benjamin stands 5-feet-10 weighing 210 pounds. In college, he carried the ball 576 times for 2867 yards with 27 touchdowns.
Benjamin might get scooped up before the Rams can take him. If he falls to the Rams,he would be a nice addition to the running back department. If he is there, in the sixth round, you have to take him.
These are just four Senior Bowl running backs worth drafting in the late rounds. They have the ability to produce on the field at a reasonable cost, salary cap-wise. Let’s watch to see how well they fare on Saturday.
