LA Rams fans were treated by a North offensive explosion en route to a 34-17 victory in the Senior Bowl
For most LA Rams fans, the Senior Bowl played on Janury 25, 2020 was simply an entertaining game of football to see what the new 2020 NFL Draft class looked like. For Ramblin Fan contributor Larry Brake, the game became one more source for an artilce about potential draft targets.
Justin Herbert, Oregon, opened the Senior Bowl as the staring quarterback for the South team. He led an impressive drive for an opening touchdown. LA Rams fans couldn’t help but visualize him in a Rams uniform. As stated before the game, he only played in the first quarter.
Quarterback Shea Patterson, Michigan, took control of the North offense early in the second quarter in a very explosive way. He connected with wide receiver Darius Anderson, TCU, for a 75 yard touchdown pass to tie the game up at 7-7. Each team kicked a field goal to make the score 10-10 at halftime.
Quarterback Anthony Gordon, Washington State, may have stolen the spotlight in the third quarter. He led the North team to score 21 unanswered points to take a commanding lead 31-10. He completed eight passes for 69 yards with two touchdowns.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma, threw a late fourth quarter touchdown pass to draw the South closer at 31-17. Tyler Bass, Georgia Southern, kicked a 50 yard field goal in the closing seconds of the game for the final 34-17 score. Perhaps the NFL scouts wanted to see his strong leg in game time speed.
Four players that LA Rams fans noticed by their outstanding performance
First, Patterson led all quarterbacks in passing. He completed six of ten passes for 131 yards with one touchdown. Patterson’s performance turned heads and may have moved up on some draft boards.
Second, Herbert had a very efficient first quarter. He completed nine passes for 83 yards with one touchdown. His performance solidified a first round selection.
Third, running back Joshua Kelley, UCLA, was the leading rusher in the game. He had 15 carries for 105 yards. Most of all, he averaged an amazing seven yards per carry. Imagine him and Todd Gurley leading the Rams rushing attack.
Fourth, the North teams entire defensive edge rushers had a huge impact in the game. There is no need to single out just one player because they all performed well. The South team’s defense could not find any possible way to slow them down.
The next step towards the draft is the NFL Combine in late February. During the nearly week’s worth of events, Rams fans will get to see the measurables such as bench press repetitions, the various agility shuttles and speed drills. Let’s enjoy the process moving forward.
