Rams Wide Receiver Isaac Bruce has been inducted into the 2020 NFL Hall of Fame

The LA Rams have had a very storied history in the National Football League. Originally the Cleveland Rams, then the LA Rams, then the St. Louis Rams, and now back to the LA Rams.  In August 2020, former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The LA Rams have quite the history of drafting elite players. Bruce joins his quarterback, Kurt Warner, as a member of the 2020 enshrinement class.

Bruce was drafted in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft. He played from 1994-2007 in the Rams uniform. Bruce was a member of the “Greatest Show on Turf”, albeit from the Saint Louis chapter of the Rams organization.

As a Rams receiver, he caught 942 passes for 14,109 yards with 84 touchdowns. Bruce is the franchise leader in receiving yards, receptions and receiving touchdowns, and he is the Rams fourth receiver to be enshrined in Canton.

Split end Tom Fears was drafted in the 1945 NFL Draft. Split end “Crazy Legs” Elroy Hirsch was taken one year later by the former Cleveland Rams.  Vowing not to play in Cleveland, Hirsch signed on with All-America Football Conference. He eventually did sign with the Rams, who retained his NFL rights. Four other skill players have hall of fame busts.

Bob Waterfield and Norm Van Brocklin are drafted quarterbacks from the 1940’s. Running back Eric Dickerson was drafted in 1983. Also, Jerome Bettis in the 1993 draft.

Three offensive lineman are in the Hall, as well. Tom Mack, guard, was selected in 1966. Tackles Jackie Slater, 1976, and Orlando Pace, 1997, were outstanding Rams linemen on Super Bowl teams.

Defensively, five players have hall of fame busts. Four played on the line and one played linebacker. Kevin Greene was taken in 1985.

Merlin Olsen is the only defensive tackle in Canton, Ohio, and was drafted in 1962. Andy Robustelli, drafted in 1951, played five seasons in the Rams uniform as a defensive end. Another defensive end, Jack Youngblood, was selected in the 1971 NFL Draft.

Perhaps the most celebrated Rams player of all-time is Deacon Jones. David Deacon Jones was the ultimate pass rushing defensive end that the NFL has ever seen. He and Olsen were members of the infamous “Fearsome Foursome” defensive line of the 1960’s.
