LA Rams news on the NFL Scouting Combine day 3 was fairly quiet but we did get some direction on where the team is aiming in free agency this year
The 2020 NFL Scouting Combine is already three days old, and the news for LA Rams fans is still only coming in at a trickle’s pace. That shouldn’t surprise many, as the first group of quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends have filled the headlines for the past three days. Unfortunately, the Rams have neither the right draft picks nor the immediate need for those players.
The Rams do have a need for players who work in the line of scrimmage. And between yesterday and today, the 2020 NFL Draft hopefuls who play in those positions have finally arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana.
We did learn a bit more about the NFL owners and NFLPA negotiations with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Or rather, we learned today that both sides met to discuss the proposed CBA before players vote to accept it, and the post-meeting tone suggests that more work remains to be done.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy: “As you can tell, the meeting just concluded, and out of respect for the process, we’re not going to comment further at this time.” Owners and players dispersing after nearly four hours together.

On a more Rams relevant set of topics, the LA Rams head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead both spoke today. With the LA Rams looking at free agency, there is quite a bit of contemplation over “who will the Rams prioritize?” with limited funds available.
"It's about building the best team and there's different ways to be able to do that."

Today we learned our answer. The Rams will try to re-sign OT Andrew Whitworth and OLB Dante Fowler Jr. As of today, it would seem that the LA Rams will need to make additional moves to free up sufficient cap space. If the Rams are able to free up enough cap space, look for the team to push hard to re-sign ILB Cory Littleton as well.
Finally, the whispers about running back Todd Gurley seem to have died down. Both Snead and McVay discussed the LA Rams running game from 2019. The good news is that both seemed confident that THIS year, they can set things back to high productivity. The bad news? They’ve claimed this before.
But this year is different in that the Rams can diagnose the problems from 2019. The team had plenty of opportunities to distance themselves from Gurley today, and never did so. With last year’s rookie offensive linemen earning plenty of playing time, this year’s training camp will certainly be intense competition. That bodes well for the team and the running game.
Tomorrow’s summary will likely have more features about 2020 Draft prospects and the direction the Rams intend to move in the selection process. Today was sufficient though. Gurley’s future with the team appears to be secure, and the Rams will work to restore the running game back to its glory.
