3 reasons LA Rams target OLB Kyler Fackrell in NFL Free Agency
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams need production on defense to complement their defensive stars. FA OLB Kyler Fackrell could be great complement from NFL Free Agency
The more I look at the 2020 LA Rams core defense, with players like OLB Clay Matthews, DT Aaron Donald, CB Jalen Ramsey, CB Troy Hill, S John Johnson, S Taylor Rapp, Slot CB David Long Jr. and CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, the more I wonder if the Rams could flourish with filling out the defense starting lineup with undrafted free agents in 2020 and remain a top-10 defense.
It’s a solid defense as is, ladies and gentlemen. So regardless of how free agency plays out, this is not going to be a weak link for the team’s aspirations to compete in and win Super Bowl LV.
All considered it makes the process for the LA Rams to assess and evaluate free agents, both internal and external, all the more critical. Playing on the Rams defense elevates the play of players, and can be proven by merely following along on the statistics. The LA Rams who interact with me know this as well. I continue to be impressed at the comments section, where so many fans are quite effectively factoring in that when assessing the value of outgoing Rams to free agency.
So the key to free agency is to find productive players who did not have the advantage of great defensive backs, nor did they play alongside a blocker magnet like the Rams DT Donald. One such player did not show up from my own research, but rather came to me from one of the astute LA Rams fans who follow us on social media. Yes, I proudly admit that I do get ideas from Rams fans. The player? Former Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell. He was a 2019 backup outside linebacker, and he hits free agency in 2020.
