Why the LA Rams should pry OLB Von Miller away from Denver Broncos
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams want to pair an elite edge rusher with DT Aaron Donald. This could be the year to pry OLB Von Miller away from the Denver Broncos.
The LA Rams have been in a bit of limbo in recent years. Each year the Rams try to match defensive All-Pro DT Aaron Donald with a defensive counterpart to relieve some of the blocking pressure and free Donald up to terrorize offenses. They almost had that set up when the team signed DL Ndamukong Suh for one glorious season. But he wanted more money than the Rams were willing to spend and departed for greener pastures. The team then signed on OLB Dante Fowler Jr. for one season. But like Suh, Fowler will likely carry an expensive price-tag into the NFL Free Agency market.
So that leaves the Rams searching once more. Perhaps they need search no further than the Denver Broncos. And perhaps the LA Rams should give a bona fide effort towards rejoining OLB Von Miller with his former linebackers’ coach, currently Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
Before the hateful comments take aim, let’s talk this through. The Denver Broncos GM John Elway has already indicated certain intentions to pick up Von Miller’s 2020 option, which translates into a salary of $17,500,000. That actually is not much more than the franchise tag option the Rams have on OLB Dante Fowler Jr., which commands an estimated cost of $16,300,000.
So what can we make of all that? Well, let’s focus on the Denver Broncos’ perspective, and how Von Miller’s return in 2020 allows the team to focus on other needs.
