Why the LA Rams should pry OLB Von Miller away from Denver Broncos
By Bret Stuter
What is Denver Broncos’ incentive?
The Denver Broncos are virtually in rebuild mode. If they are not, they are going to struggle for a few more seasons. The team finished at 7-9, only better than the Los Angeles Chargers at 5-11, and tied with the ever-improving Las Vegas Raiders. Rebuilding means the team will focus on young players, and trade veterans at or beyond the age of 30 years of age for draft picks or younger players. The Broncos continued to flirt between competing and rebuilding. In the process, the team fell to 3-8 before a 4-1 run at season’s end helped to make the season respectable.

But the damage was done. After the Broncos were swept by the Kansas City Chiefs, veteran outside linebacker Von Miller began a soliloquy, detailing four years of frustration for a now seasoned veteran. All the while clinging to the promises of new coaches, to new players, to new philosophies, to new seasons.
That was no call for help. It wasn’t a hidden message to the Broncos front office. OLB Von Miller was publicly stating his hopes to play for a contender. And even louder, he was expressing a vote of no-confidence in the Denver Broncos’ ability to get it done through the remainder of his time with the team. GM John Elway heard the message loud and clear. But the Broncos simply have too many needs to allow the team to let Miller walk away. They’ll need compensation to let that happen.
Due to the hefty price tag and the short duration of his remaining contract, some set the trade value of Von Miller at a third-round pick. But that does nothing for the Broncos’ hopes in the 2020 NFL Draft to select, coach up, and have a player ready. And Elway won’t move Miller for a third-round pick. But he also won’t want a veteran who many in the locker room look up to in an emotional state of frustration, discouragement, or worst of all, surrender to losing seasons going forward.
