The LA Rams fans must now wait as NFL rumors about star running back Todd Gurley intensify in the onset of NFL Free Agency
The LA Rams fans may not have a long waiting period for a blockbuster trade. In fact, that trade may be at the beginning phone call phase right now. At least, that is the likely scenario if the LA Rams RB Todd Gurley is truly on the trade block right now, as is the most recent NFL Rumors reported.
Gurley remains a highly productive rusher, having averaged over 11 touchdowns and 1000 yards per season over his five-year career. That is enough to maintain him among one of the best running backs in the NFL.
But that stellar production has been falling on two fronts in recent years. In 2018, Gurley was mysteriously absent from the Rams starting lineup during their playoff run leading into Super Bowl LIII. At the end of the 2018 season, the Rams front office circled the wagons around Gurley, assuring the fans and sportswriters that 2019 would be a different scenario. The Rams claimed that season would be handled via load management of Gurley, and distributing his load among rookie running back Darrell Henderson and veteran running back Malcolm Brown.
That proved to be another disappointment. At the end of the 2019 NFL season, rumors about the LA Rams moving on from Gurley began to surface. Now those NFL Rumors are back and intensifying.
The asking price may be a tad high on Gurley today, but even at the fourth round pick range, the team could land a day one starting running back.
Of course, there is the matter of what value does Gurley have for a new team? Well, there is the fact that even in a down year in 2019, Gurley scored 12 touchdowns on the ground and two more via the air. In fact, his 14 touchdowns were good for fifth place in the NFL. Not bad for a down season, was it?
He brings versatile production in both the running and passing games, and he would be a solid “get” for a playoff-bound NFL team with a need for a veteran running back. Several teams who could and should be in the conversation for Gurley include the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and the Buffalo Bills. Of those teams, the Bills and Eagles have plenty of available salary-cap space.
