In an NFL Network interview, Michael Silver stated that the Rams may cut RB Todd Gurley if no trade develops in days ahead
The NFL Rumors swirling around the LA Rams and RB Todd Gurley continue to rise in frequency and volume. The latest NFL Rumor, from a televised interview on the NFL Network between Rich Eisen and Sports Illustrated’s Michael Silver, placed the claim that the LA Rams may cut running back Todd Gurley outright if no trade develops in the near future.
Of course, the rumors of trading Todd Gurley are out there too, as is the rumor of the Rams trading away wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The latest such link of Gurley and Cooks in a trade involves a possible trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But until now, the rumors have been about the presence of both Gurley and Cooks on the trade block. This new rumor suggests that the Rams have not heard enough interest from other teams for Gurley, and are now preparing to do what the team feels is in the best interest moving forward.

Of course, Gurley and Cooks are still productive football players, and both are capable of generating touchdowns and over 1,000 yards of offense in any given season. But both had just signed significant NFL contracts and followed up that signing with career-low seasons, that often triggers these types of rumors.
Why now?
But even more, the Rams face a Friday deadline to decide. Another $5 million roster bonus becomes fully guaranteed on that day.
#Rams have decisions on Todd Gurley's contract & future. His 2020 base salary of 5.5M becomes truly guaranteed this Friday. Gurley has a 5M 2021 roster bonus that also becomes truly guaranteed Fri. He has a 7.55M roster bonus that already became truly guaranteed for 2020 last yr.

The best-case scenario would be both Gurley and Cooks having career-high seasons in Rams uniforms in 2020. But with the team under financial pressure to add talent to a rapidly depleting defense, the patience required to get there may have evaporated. As of 1:00 pm PT today on March 18, 2020, the Rams will have the option to release players with a post-June 1 designation, which would allow them to spread dead money over two seasons.
This continues to remain a relevant topic and can change dramatically. Stay tuned!
