Cap chat

So what is the salary cap effect of these two moves? Well, Todd Gurley’s salary cap hit was $17.5 million before being cut by Spotrac.com. That dropped $10 million, per the latest by Adam Schefter:

Per Spotrac.com, Clay Matthews’ departure released $3.75 million in salary cap back to the Rams available dollars.  That same Spotrac.com report shows the Rams available salary cap right now at $18.7 million.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Numbers revised to reflect true cap offset for 2020 on March 20, 2020.

Finally, Spotrac.com details out the 2020 salary cap impact, of Todd Gurley, but that does not reflect the $2.5 million offset to the roster bonus in 2020.  So the

Cap Space        –       $18,700,000
Gurley release     –    $ 2,500,000
Est Blyth impact –  ($ 2,000,000)
Est Floyd impact – ($13,000,000)
Est Robinson Imp- ($ 8,500,000)

New Salary cap  –    ($2,300,000) shortfall

Keep in mind that the Austin Blythe impact is a swag number, and could be much less.  The team has not released terms of either the Floyd or Robinson contracts either.  But the number does reflect a $4.3  million draft cap hold to sign new players selected in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. So for now, the Rams are out of or nearly out of capacity in terms of available cap space.
