LA Rams draft Anthony Gordon, QB Washington State

The Rams are hoping to strike future gold with this draft pick. QB Anthony Gordon is taken as the best player available in round 7. Since the Rams already have a starting QB in Jared Goff, this gives Gordon the opportunity to make the transition from college to the pro game.

At Washington State, Gordon played one season as the starting quarterback. He was Gardner Minshew‘s backup in 2018. Last season, he completed 493 passes for 5596 yards with 48 touchdowns.

Gordon would be the third consecutive Washington State quarterback to be drafted under Mike Leach. Luke Falk was drafted in 2018. Minshew won the hearts of Jacksonville Jaguars fans by his play in 2019.

At the Senior Bowl, Gordon had a huge third quarter for his North team. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 69 yards with two touchdowns. He clearly was the best quarterback on the North team.

Gordon was asked about his performance by the Associated Press report found on the nfl.com website. He relayed the following information:

"“I came out swinging when it was my time,” said Gordon, … “I guess that kind of correlates to my time at Washington State. I spent a lot of time waiting, but when my time came I was ready.”"

LA wins with this draft pick, especially if he has to wait his turn until Jared Goff’s tenure is over. Gordon may be the proverbial diamond in the rough. Right now, he’ll have plenty of time to evolve from coal to diamond. Let’s see how it plays out.
