5 traps the LA Rams must avoid in the 2020 NFL Draft

Pitfall 5 – Drafting a running back in round two
The LA Rams have a need for a featured running back in the 2020 NFL Draft. But when should the Rams pull the trigger on that selection? Certainly not with their first selection at pick number 52, and for several reasons.
A pick in the second round will be the most expensive player from the draft but will be deeply discounted to the cost of an NFL veteran. So the LA Rams, simply from an economic perspective, should aim at the highest priced veteran players. Those are QB, shutdown CB, Edge rusher, and blindside OT. Anything else misses the advantage of landing a rookie onto the roster.
But running backs are deep in this class, and the Rams have two picks in round three. A solid running back will be on the board at 104, the Rams second selection in round three.
So the Rams need to be wise and aim elsewhere than running back in round two. Of course, it all depends on how the draft board plays out, but the odds run heavily in favor of finding a starter who can carry the ball 200 times a season all the way into round five. So avoid the foolishness of drafting a running back too soon.
