LA Rams select Josh Jones, OT Houston

Josh Jones is the choice of the Rams in round 2. Jones is a big physical lineman from the University of Houston. Jones stands 6-feet-5 weighing 319 pounds.

At the NFL Combine, Jones ran a 5.27-second 40-yard dash. He bench-pressed 225 pounds twenty-four times. He vertically jumped 28.5 inches and broad jumped over 9 feet. Jones is very athletic for his huge frame.

The Rams can project him to become the heir apparent of Andrew Whitworth’s left tackle position. Jones could use his rookie year to get acclimated to the speed and power of the pro game. Most of all, he would be another young lineman under the tutelage of Whitworth.

The Rams must improve in the running game in order to win a playoff spot. In 2019, they were not able to create running lanes for the running backs. Jones is drafted here to fix the run blocking.

The LA offensive line gave up the fewest sacks of any NFL team. They weren’t able to move the chains on third and short. The Rams have to get more aggressive upfront with their personnel and blocking schemes. Jones is the first step towards that goal.

Here’s a look at the Rams’ next selection.
