LA Rams select Malik Harrison, LB Ohio State

Malik Harrison is taken to bolster the Rams linebacking corps. Harrison played four seasons at Ohio State University. He made 205 total tackles in his college career.

Harrison stands 6-feet-3 weighing 247 pounds. He ran a 4.66-second 40-yard dash at the Combine. He showed his athleticism by vertically jumping 36 inches and broad jumping 122 inches (over 10 feet).

Expect Harrison to fill the void left at linebacker by the release of Clay Matthews.  In 2020, LA will have $2 million in dead cap money attributed to the release of Matthews. Harrison would earn $839,386 in the first year of his rookie contract, according to overthecap.com.

Lance Zierlein of nfl.com writes the following:

"Long-legged, loose-hipped linebacker with desired combination of size, physicality and range to help ruin the running game for teams needing linebacker help. His constant downhill mode disrupts blocking schemes and brings impact tackles, … can pressure the pocket as a blitzer and has the athleticism to spy mobile quarterbacks. He’s big and tough with the potential to become a good starter inside or as a 4-3 strong-side linebacker."

Harrison has the ability to play as both an interior and an outside linebacker. Versatility makes his selection a good pick.
