Erik Hindenburg interview – Part II

Ramblin Fan: Should the Rams draft a kicker, or sign several as UDFAs and go with the best one?

Erik Hindenburg (DraftRite) – Given the lack of depth across the roster and the limited draft capital, I would bring in 2 or 3 UDFA’s and a couple of veteran legs to compete for the spot. With the current state of affairs, it would be hard to justify a draft pick on a specialist.

Ramblin Fan: Which offensive tackle who may fall to Day 3 might the Rams look to develop into Andrew Whitworth’s replacement?

Erik Hindenburg (DraftRite) – Matt Peart out of Connecticut would be absolutely perfect. He is big, nasty and long. Learning from Whitworth would be tremendous for his development. A guy like Alex Taylor from South Carolina State late would make sense too. He checks all the boxes from a physical standpoint but needs a ton of development to be a contributor.

Ramblin Fan: Can you name three linebackers from the 2020 NFL Draft who have above average coverage skills?

Erik Hindenburg (DraftRite) – Troy Dye out of Oregon is very limited as a run defender, but has excellent coverage skills. If a team thinks they can make Dye into a poor man’s Telvin Smith he is definitely an option.

Akeem Davis-Gaither out of Appalachian State is one of my favorite players in this class, but they would be lucky to see him on the board at 52 honestly. Markus Bailey out of Purdue has seen his draft stock fall due to injury, and straight-line speed is a bit of a question, but as a zone linebacker he is excellent and could be a great value pick as well. He is probably the best fit/value combination for the Rams outside of the top guys.
