LA Rams: 2020 NFL Draft – post Cooks trade Mock Draft 7.1
By Larry Brake
LA Rams select A.J. Terrell, CB Clemson
The Rams fortify their pass defense with this pick. A.J. Terrell is the pick that they gained in the Cooks’ deal. Terrell played collegiate at Clemson University.
He stands 6-feet-1 weighing 195 pounds. Terrell ran a very fast 4.42-second 40-yard dash at the Combine. LA needs his speed to cover the swift receivers in the NFC West division.
At Clemson, Terrell made 101 total tackles through three seasons. He intercepted six passes and ran one back for a touchdown. Terrell could be the Rams slot corner as a rookie.
Lance Zierlein of nfl.com reports the following:
"Long, press-man cornerback … Terrell has the foot agility and patience to pedal and mirror the release or jab and ride on it aggressively. He’s an above-average athlete with quick burst to close out space in tight quarters, …"
Size and speed is the growing trend with cornerbacks. Terrell is fast enough and strong enough to prevent receivers from creating space. In time, he could develop into the classic shut down corner.
He is insurance against the real possibility of Ramsey playing elsewhere in 2021. Of course, if LA signs Ramsey, the secondary becomes stronger and dynamic. Hopefully, it happens.
The Rams next pick of the 2020 NFL Draft …
