LA Rams select Cesar Ruiz, C Michigan
The Rams continue to stockpile offensive linemen in round 3. Cesar Ruiz is taken at #84. Ruiz played center at the University of Michigan.
Ruiz stands 6-feet-3 weighing 307 pounds. The ideal size of an NFL center is 6-feet-2 weighing 290 pounds, according to the legendary coach Bill Walsh. Ruiz performed well at the Combine.
Ruiz ran a 5.08-second 40-yard dash. He bench-pressed 225 pounds 28 times. He vertically jumped 33 inches and broad jumped 113 inches. Ruiz is both strong and agile.
Charlie Campbell of walterfootball.com writes the following:
"Ruiz decided to skip his senior year to enter the 2020 NFL Draft after putting together a quality collegiate career for Michigan. He is a well-balanced blocker in the ground game and in pass protection. Additionally, Ruiz has a lot of experience from being a 3-year starter. He has enough size to also compete at guard as well. Ruiz had a good combine performance to help himself. He looks like a future starter early in his NFL career."
Versatility is key with the selection of Ruiz. As Campbell noted, Ruiz could move to play guard. Injuries are just one play away from happening. He is added insurance for the Rams offensive line.
