LA Rams select Joshua Kelley, RB UCLA

LA picks an all-around running back in the sixth round. Joshua Kelley played collegiately at UCLA. His college offense prepared him to play in the Rams style of play.

In two seasons at UCLA, he ran for 2303 yards with 24 touchdowns. He caught 38 passes for 264 yards with one touchdown. Kelley averaged 5.2 yards each time he touched the ball from scrimmage.

He stands 5-feet-11 weighing 212 pounds, per his Combine measurement. Kelley ran a quick 4.49-second 40-yard dash. He bench-pressed 225 pounds 23 times.

Dave Richards of cbssports.com reported these comments after Kelley’s performance at the Senior Bowl:

"In Mobile, he showed off acceleration and good vision on several carries while also displaying patience on some other runs. He seems mature for the position … in the game he ran for over 100 yards, flashing vision and cuts to be a hero in zone-blocking schemes. He was also physical, … Kelley also had the best size combination among his peers … Only one other back, Antonio Gibson of Memphis, weighed more."

Kelley could be slowly implemented in the Rams offense. Envision him in the role of the third-down receiving back until he is ready to become the starter. He could step into that role sooner rather than later.
