LA Rams 2020 NFL Draft harvests talented treasure trove – Mock Draft 6.0

Round 3 Pick 84
The name of the game for the LA Rams this year so far is the goal to add speed and versatility to the defense. Their third pick, linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither from Appalachian State delivers that. After all, he’s one of the linebackers who seems to appear in virtually each and every NFL team’s draft board. Yes, he’s that talented. Per the NFL Draft rumors, he’s been in contact with nearly all teams, but has noted the LA Rams as one team he had met with during the NFL Combine.
He’s appeared in the Rams Mock Draft before, but in the past, he had fallen to the 104th pick of the Rams draft board. Now that the Rams have an additional second-round pick at 57, the team can afford to choose Davis-Gaither at 84 and jump ahead of other interested NFL teams. His popularity comes from his ability to project at multiple defensive roles. He has the ability to play inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and safety. That is a strong attraction for defensive coordinators.
He stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 227-pounds, making him an ideal teammate for Queens at 52, and his playing style is very similar. He had foot surgery in February 2020, which was deemed a success. That surgery did limit his Combine work to just bench reps. Meanwhile, NFL restrictions negated any chance for an NFL Pro day to test his 40-yard dash time. Even without official confirmation, he is an incredible mobile sideline-to-sideline defender who uses his speed to outmaneuver would-be blockers. And it’s that speed which allows him to cover a lot of space to close in on the ball carrier and make a tackle.
