By Larry Brake
LA Rams select Antonio Gibson, RB/WR Memphis
Antonio Gibson is the selection as the 104th selection of the draft in round 3. Gibson played collegiately at Memphis University. He is a multi-talented player.
Gibson stands 6-feet weighing 228 pounds, per his measurements at the Combine. He ran a blistering 4.39-second 40-yard dash. He bench-pressed 225 pounds 16 times.
Gibson turned heads at the Senior Bowl with his versatility. Jesse Reed of msn.com reports the following:
"Former Memphis Tigers running back Antonio Gibson is sizzling early in Saturday’s Reese’s Senior Bowl, showing off rare elusiveness and speed..This past season at Memphis, Gibson tallied 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns from scrimmage. He has a chance to be a real steal in the 2020 NFL Draft, as he’s showing out well against top competition at the Senior Bowl. That bodes well for his future."
At the Senior Bowl, he ran the ball 11 times for 68 yards. Gibson played mostly as a wide receiver in this college career. At Memphis, he caught 44 passes for 834 yards to average 19 yards per reception.
In a point and time when analytics is increasing among all NFL teams, Gibson becomes the hybrid that mixes Gurley and Cooks together. Most importantly, his skill set allows the Rams to be very creative in offensive formations and personnel groupings.
