LA Rams select J.R. Reed, Safety Georgia

The Rams elected to draft J.R. Reed in round 7. Reed played collegiately at Georgia of the SEC Conference. He played 42 games at safety for Georgia.

In three seasons, he made 199 total tackles with three sacks. He intercepted five passes. Reed forced three fumbles and returned one fumble for a touchdown.

At the Combine, he measured 6-feet-1 weighing 202 pounds. He ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash. Reed bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times. He is very athletic and has good football savvy.

His father is a former NFL wide receiver, Jake Reed. He should have the inside information about defending NFL offenses. There’s no doubt that his dad shared a wealth of information with him.

Reed should start his Rams career on special teams. After he gets acclimated to the Rams defensive scheme, you can expect him to be a physical presence on the field. Zierlein explains more in the following at nfl.com:

"Productive, football-savvy prospect with unremarkable traits and explosiveness, but an elevated football IQ to make up for it. … His instinctive brand of football allows him to play chess against quarterbacks, … but toughness and smarts could push him beyond the measurables."
