Despite the comments to the contrary, the LA Rams need to draft RB in the 2020 NFL Draft and here are some prospects

The 2020 NFL Draft is full of talent at the running back position. With the LA Rams releasing running back Todd Gurley, the team will need a new back to take the mantle and keep the offense rolling.

Make no mistake the Rams are still a running team. When the Rams were at their best they took advantage of great talent at running back, and because of that quarterback, Jared Goff excelled at the play-action pass. With Todd Gurley gone the Rams need to find a replacement. While drafting a back at 52 isn’t the most popular opinion, it’s at least an idea that should be looked at.

When it comes to the current roster Brown is a solid backup, but he is just that. Henderson couldn’t get going had a less than stellar rookie campaign at a position where you’re supposed to hit the ground running. There is also a rumor that the Rams could change schemes and be primarily a 12 personnel package, that is one running back and two tight ends. Most teams in the 12 package have a higher tendency to run and use their tight ends to block. It is for these reasons the Rams could take a running back with their first pick in the draft.

Both running backs are potential first-round talents. Unfortunately for them, the NFL has been oversaturated at the position the past few years, and two other backs are rated as higher prospects. Most mock boards have them falling which is great news as it means Jonathan Taylor and J.K. Dobbins could potentially be available at 52.

Being from the Midwest and watching both of them play in the Big 10 they are both very exceptional backs with some differences. Comparing the two Dobbins is more of a shifty back as he is very elusive. He is great at evading people to find open space. Taylor is more of a 1 cut back but he still has a little wiggle to him while in space. Once he cuts through a hole he explodes and is very physical about it. Both backs are also good receiving options from the backfield as well.

If both are there Taylor should be the one preferred back. He’s more physical and fits with the rumored personnel change better than Dobbins. He should also be a better prospect as he ran for over 2,000 yards 3 straight seasons in college. However, if Dobbins is the only one left he is still a huge improvement over what we currently have. Either way, the running back is the engine of this Rams offense and they need a back who can keep it running.
