LA Rams 2020 NFL Draft fill all needs – Mock Draft 7.0
By Bret Stuter
Pick 159
The LA Rams need to address the defensive backfield, particularly after several defensive backs are no longer with the team this year. And so far, the Rams have leaned into the offense so far with the first seven picks as four offensive players and three defensive players. The Rams fix that with the selection of Utah’s safety, Julian Blackmon to even up the picks as four offensive and four defensive players.

The Rams lost veteran safety Eric Weddle to retirement, the team needs more than 2019 safety Nick Scott to back up the team at the position. Blackmon is ready to take on the challenge. He stands 6-foot-0 and weighs 187 pounds. He may not excite all Rams fans, but he is an ideal defensive back because he has experience at both cornerback and at the safety position.
As such, he becomes a legitimate defensive weapon for the Rams. He can play man coverage, zone defense, can crowd the box and tackle the runner behind the line of scrimmage, and he can do it all from the safety position. All the while, he does so fearlessly. He takes the safety position seriously and delivers physicality and poise when the team needs it most.
He is the poster child of versatility from the 2020 NFL Draft as a defensive back. He will allow the Rams to go base-defense to nickel package without changing on-field personnel. That gives the defense an incredible boost in no-huddle offenses.
