Pick 126

The LA Rams have three tight ends who all expect to play a part of the team’s offense in 2020. And as the team moves to day three and round four of the 20202 NFL Draft, a tight end is likely not atop the team’s shopping list. After all, tight end Gerald Everett, Tyler Higbee, and Johnny Mundt are young and productive. But the Rams plan to us their 12-package more frequently in 2020 and must add another tight end to make it all work.  Of course, Devin Asiasi from UCLA is more than happy to join the LA Rams.

The Rams do not look at the tight end position at round four for just anyone. But Asiasi is a 6-foot-3 257-pound swiss army knife. He can block, catch the ball, and run with the ball after the catch. He didn’t truly stand out until his 2019 season at UCLA, but he put up a solid season when he finally did break out.

He has the natural ability to find open spots in defenses and runs text-book routes for a tight end. But he is raw in some areas. He is physical, but not in traffic. He runs crisp routes but can be knocked off his timing by a physical defensive back. He knows how to block, but is too inconsistent to be counted on in short-yardage situations. And he is a big target but needs softer hands when he goes up to make a catch.

He needs time to fully develop his full potential for the Rams.  Under head coach Sean McVay, he’ll be given plenty of time to develop. And on the Rams roster, he’ll develop into a good one.
