Round 4 pick 126: TE Colby Parkinson

Tight end Colby Parkinson is a very versatile receiving tight end out of Stanford.  Parkinson is a 6-foot-7, weighs a solid 252 pounds and can line up on the line or the outside like a receiver. He is a great jump-ball threat who is a matchup nightmare in the red zone. If the Rams decide to move off of Gerald Everett, Parkinson would be a good replacement.

Watching his tape one can see that he lines up anywhere from the line to the slot outside the numbers. One can see McVay using that to his advantage to out scheme opponents, especially in his hurry-up scheme to create confusion.

Trending. Can LA Rams fans expect to see the new uniforms before the Draft?. light

Parkinson has some on the field knocks that I’ve noticed, especially when it comes to his run blocking. It seems he takes some plays off, just gets to his block and then stops. I’ve watched plays where he is obviously much taller than the guy he’s supposed to block where he will just stand there after putting his hands on them. His route running also needs to be a bit more polished. This shows as he doesn’t gain separation in tight coverage.

He also isn’t the best when balls are thrown to his chest in tight coverage. If the ball is contested and not thrown as a high point pass, where he can use his size, he has a tendency to not always catch them. Troy Dye who I have going at 104 had a solid game when he was covering Parkinson, showing how much he needs to develop. Still, the potential is there and Sean loves his tight ends.
