RB Cam Akers Is the LA Rams’ first selection on the 2020 NFL Draft. Here’s a quick look at him

The LA Rams trusted their draft board and scouting department in the selection of Cam Akers. Akers played collegiately at Florida State University. He stands  5-feet-10  weighing 217 pounds. He was a solid “get” for the Rams, and is an ideal fit for the team’s run-pass-option offense.
We named him as one of the potential selected running backs two months ago, and now it seems to have come to pass.

Lance Zierlein of nfl.com projected the following:

"He runs with tempo and flow but alters his rush track at a moment’s notice when needed. He is elusive but lacking the instant burst of a slasher capable of stacking long runs in a single game. Akers has above-average open-field vision once he’s into the second level and looks to run through the tackler’s pads as a finisher. He’s a three-down option with good feel for finding the crease near the goal line, … is one of the more natural runners in the draft."

At Florida State, he rushed for 2875 yards with 27 touchdowns. He caught 69 passes for 486 yards. He is a dual-threat running back.

The scouting website, thedraftnetwork.com, writes the following:

"Downhill runner that displays good proactive athleticism for the position. In the passing game, he is good due to his ability to affect the passing game in a couple different ways. Shows the ability to be a face up protector and the instincts to identify the most dangerous man against a blitz. Runs sufficient routes out of the backfield and sufficient hands as a pass catcher on check downs. As a runner, he displays a strong lower body and base. Does a good job running behind his pads and will finish runs. Tough runner between the tackles who shows the ability to stick his foot in the ground and get upfield on zone reads. Displays good long speed to take it the distance and beat angles by defenders in the secondary."

Akers is the running back to replace Todd Gurley. And he has the ideal skill-set to do so. He is a hard rusher who can take it up a notch.
