As 2020 NFL Draft concludes, LA Rams UDFA signings kick in
By Bret Stuter
As soon as the last name is announced in the 2020 NFL Draft, the LA Rams will scramble nationwide to sign over 20 undrafted free agents (UDFA)
The 2020 NFL Draft ends today, April 25, 2020. But as soon as the draft ends, the real fun begins. You see, 32 teams will swarm on all forms of media devices to contact agents of those disappointed NFL hopefuls who did not hear their names called in the draft. They are the undrafted free agents, and they will swarm to the NFL over the next couple of days.
While NFL teams average just seven drafted players, the number of undrafted free agent signings is more than double that on average per NFL team. For the LA Rams this year, that number will be well over 20 new faces signed to the roster.
Of course, the road to an NFL starter is incredibly difficult for anyone not drafted. The first step is to sign on with a team with the opportunity to compete for starting time. Unfortunately, the LA Rams are such an NFL team with plenty of roster openings. Besides the swiss cheese roster, the Rams have a history for coaching-up undrafted players into NFL starters.
So who might the Rams targets as undrafted free agent signings? Here are some names I expect the Rams to target after the 2020 NFL Draft ends.
And still more names for the team. The Rams will likely skew towards players who can develop over time, yet contribute quickly on the special teams play.
The Rams will have 20 or more roster slots to fill over the next 48 hours. And while it may seem premature to be discussing UDFAs before draft day 3 begins, this all happens very quickly.
So here we go! Round three begins in just minutes. Here’s hoping the Rams get their roster rounded out with their remaining picks.
