Pick 104 Safety Terrell Burgess (Utah): You can’t really have too many good players.

Yes, another position that the Rams lost a starter. This time the team said farewell to veteran safety Eric Weddle due to retirement.  Thankfully, the Rams thought ahead of the curve by drafting rookie safety Taylor Rapp in 2019, where he played a lot of nickel-package defense. while he learned from one of the greatest safeties. Now it’s Rapp’s turn to control the strong safety position, leaving the nickel spot wide open, after cutting Nickell Robey-Coleman for cap purposes. To clarify, the nickel defense is a subpackage that frequently substitutes a linebacker with a defensive back. This package was a favorite for the Rams under former defensive coordinator Wade Philips.

The starting spot is not granted for the rookie, as he will need to take it from second-year player David Long Jr.

Burgess is a special player; a blended hybrid that has played both CB and S for the Utes; he brings amazing run-support and coverage skills that will be needed after yet another loss in the center of the defense, linebacker Cory Littleton.

I expect the position to be battled, but I’ll leave that for my roster and depth chart prediction.

Burgess will be a special player for the Rams and might have an immediate impact on the team, at least on special teams.
