Round 4

Pick 136 Tight end Brycen Hopkins (Purdue): Les Snead couldn’t go past a draft without pulling off a trade; so he went to the ever-reliable Bill O’Brien and his Houston Texans to do so. In exchange for their 126th pick, the Rams netted picks 136 (4th round), 248, and 250 overall (7th round).

I agree that the return could’ve been better, but the Rams were looking for some deep sleepers and depth guys, which will talk more about them later.

So in slot 136, the Rams selected Brycen Hopkins out of Purdue. Hopkins didn’t come out of the gate as one of the most coveted players in this draft, and although the tight end position wasn’t the strongest class this year, I think it was full of contributors, each of them with a special trait, but Hopkins is good in most areas than others, he plays fast on the inside, is a good zone or moving blocker that can reach the second level with ease, and has the strength needed to beat blockers off the line of scrimmage.

Brycen is physically gifted and fast, as we said after his selection.

Hopkins is not the most polished receiver as he had 22 drops in college, but I think that’s coachable, and he has enough time to do so. He joins a group that has the likes of Tyler Higbee, Gerald Everett, and Johnny Mundt, who’ve all have carved a role in the roster, but last two are free agents after this upcoming season.

The Rams did well in bringing a player with high potential, that can be developed into a contributor sooner rather than later.
