Los Angeles Rams 2020 NFL Draft Grades
Round 7
Pick 248 – Kicker Sam Sloman (Miami OH): Another spot to fill this offseason; this pick surprised nobody.
Maybe the name was a surprise for many because Georgia’s rockstar kicker Rodrigo Blankenship was still on the board, and was the best kicker in the draft for many analysts, but, the Rams showed pre-draft interest in Sloman, per Justin Melo.
After the Rams let Greg Zuerlein walk away to follow John Fassel to the Cowboys, it was inevitable to see them grab a kicker at some point late in the draft.
Although they signed former CFL kicker Lirim Hajrullahu and XFL’s Austin MacGinnis to offseason contracts, a little training camp competition never hurt anybody, and Sloman is as qualified as any, after hitting north of 85% in field goals last season for the Redhawks, with 11 of them coming from 40+ yards.
The offseason competition will be fun and might come to the line, but Sloman may have the upper leg.
