LA Rams News: Head coach Sean McVay likely rebounds in 2020

Talent wins one season, coaching wins successive seasons
Talent in the NFL may give one team an advantage, but only temporarily. From the moment a team succeeds by adding quality talent to the roster, the NFL has many methods of reversing the ability of that team to attract more talent.
Free-agent markets siphon away top talent. NFL Draft picks suddenly occur last or nearly last. And the coaches who contributed to the team’s success suddenly are lured away by promotions or more money to coach elsewhere. Continued success at the NFL level requires a strong head coach paired up with superior scouting and personnel staff who can deliver what that coach and his staff need in their players.
One of the first indications that the NFL did not understand what McVay was doing with the Rams is the poor grades issued to the team’s first NFL Draft for his roster. The consensus was one of the worst draft grades for any team for the class of 2017. But the retrospective review of that draft shows just how successful the team was in adding contributors up and down almost the entirety of that class. it’s that combination of adding talent and coaching those players up into NFL starters which is the key to long-term success in today’s NFL.
