5 former LA Rams players who could come out of retirement to play today

When the LA Rams parted ways with both Clay Matthews and Dante Fowler Jr., the team inadvertently exposed their senior statesman role at outside linebacker to Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, a young man who is just 25 years old and has just 10 NFL games in his career. That’s quite a bit of pressure on the young man. To resolve the matter, the team could look to re-sign former OLB Alec Ogletree for one year.
While Alec Ogletree may not be the best outside linebacker option for the team in terms of raw production, he is a solid lockerroom presence and the right type of veteran who would be happy to mentor the influx of young linebackers competing for an opportunity to play in the NFL.
While Ogletree was traded to the New York Giants before the 2018 season, the reason was that Ogletree’s contract was excessive. In his last year with the Rams, Ogletree put up 95 tackles, one pick-six, and two quarterback sacks. Ogletree continued to put up productive numbers for the Giants even into 2019. Now, the Rams could ensure Ogletree productive defensive snaps by creating a role for 300-400 defensive snaps on the team.
Of course, the immediate pushback is affordability. But if the Rams construct a one-year deal with multiple year options, the salary cap impact could be minimal. And as we had discussed, signing Ogletree would not adversely affect the Rams compensatory picks situation.
