Right guard

If there is an open competition at any offensive line position, then the right guard could very likely be where the action is. While many will look at the candidates of David Edwards, Jamil Demby, and Austin Blythe and conclude that Edwards is a certain starter after a successful rookie season, I’m not so sure. After all, a Rams decision to reboot Rob Havenstein at right tackle (if that is their decision) almost triggers the Rams to reboot Austin Blythe at the right guard, right?

That’s a hard call. I love what David Edwards did at the position in 2019. But will the Rams play it back with Austin Blythe at the right guard position for one more year? I believe that is how the Rams will prioritize their depth chart until on the field play dictates otherwise.

Depth Chart

The biggest question is where the Rams project Austin Blythe?  I suspect that 2020 has forced Rams OL Coach Aaron Kromer to prioritize experience for now.  Just like the right tackle projection, the right guard position will largely depend upon who shines in training camp and preseason. But for now, the LA Rams bring back the band (as much as possible) and reset the clock back to 2018.
