LA Rams News: OL biggest question mark for 2020
By Bret Stuter
Center
It remains to be seen if the LA Rams slot veteran Austin Blythe to the center position. While he did an adequate job, there are some completely obvious and cringeworthy mental breakdowns by both Blythe and first-time starter Brian Allen from 2019 video footage. Neither has proven to be the long term solution.
I believe Coleman Shelton may be that long-term player at the center position. The Rams were in a difficult spot in 2019 and made do with the players who were on the roster. While the experiment of Blythe at the center spot helped somewhat, I don’t believe the Rams overall results pleased anyone. Most of all, the automatic snap between center and quarterback seemed to be off all season.
Depth Chart
The LA Rams center role is the most critical position to fill, and that’s why I suspect that the Rams may start Coleman Shelton at the position to start the season. If Brian Allen is healthy, and Cohl Cabral is as capable as his reputation, this could be one helluva battle. Right now I’m leaning to Allen as the incumbent to win the backup spot, but this is the one position I can see 2019’s starter Brian Allen as the third option on the depth chart
6-foot-4 299-pound Coleman Shelton
6-foot-2 303-pound Brian Allen
6-foot-5 300-pound Cohl Cabral
Now that we have that settled, sort of, we can move over to the left guard.
