Left guard

Out of desperation, the LA Rams traded for Austin Corbett from the Cleveland Browns, and after plugging him in at several holes in the offensive line, seem satisfied to keep him at the left guard. I think that decision rolls over into 2020, as the Rams did not have a viable option at left guard last season. Joe Noteboom tried, but the offensive tackle seemed overwhelmed all season. The Rams have both Jeremiah Kolone and Nate Trewyn who can cross-train to the positions as well.

Corbett jumped into the offensive line mid-season with no opportunity to train with his teammates, nor benefit from his coach during training camp. He was shoved into the cockpit and told to fly and land the plane mid-flight, which he did. Even without on-field practice yet, I defy any player to be gaining more from virtual offseason on the Rams team than Corbett.

The left guard role was clearly a lynchpin role for the team in 2018.  When Roger Saffold signed with the Tennessee Titans as a free agent, the offensive line seemed to fall apart at all positions. Can Austin Corbett help restore the offensive line? Perhaps not individually, but by settling in here, the rest of the offensive line forms around him.

Which brings us to the left tackle position, which is handled by veteran Andrew Whitworth. But what of next season?
