LA Rams News: Renovations to training facility gives the look of champions

Can an NFL team be built into a champion on sinew and bone alone? Or must the team invest in brick and mortar, iron and steel as well? As the LA Rams embark on the journey back to the Super Bowl, the team is doing more than restocking the roster. From the moment the LA Rams organization decided to return to Los Angeles, forces were set into motion that involved more than moving trucks and new logos. The LA Rams began the metamorphosis into an NFL championship-caliber team.

Of course, the team itself ran ahead of schedule by competing in Super Bowl LIII, just two years after hiring head coach Sean McVay. And plans to construct the new SoFi Sports complex at a cost of over $5 billion have nearly come to fruition. New stage, new attitude. The team even rolled out a new logo to a rather cold reception.

New training facility

But the team had not addressed giving a new look to the team’s training complex. At least, not until now.  Yesterday, June 15, 2020, the team released the video of renovations to the team’s practice facility at Thousand Oaks, CA. What once was a dismal and uninspiring chamber of lockers not unlike dungeons from black and white monster movies, has been transformed into a brightly lit location worthy of an NFL Championship team. And right on schedule, it seems, as the NFL is requiring teams to remain at their primary training facility for 2020 training camp.

The movie “Field of Dreams” was a story about a corn farmer who hears voices about building a baseball diamond in his cornfields. Perhaps one of the most recognizable lines from any movie: “If you build it, he will come.” encourages the farmer to do so despite doubts. In a similar fashion, the LA Rams renovations to their practice facility are planned to attract and support the team as it competes in the postseason.  So what was changed?  Practically everything, as the dismal locker room was completely gutted and refurbished with brand new lockers, nameplates, lighting, and the redesigned logos.

More than a new look

The LA Rams are more than a fresh coat of paint or a new veneer surface on aging lumber. This is a team that has been rebuilt from bottom to top. From the coaching staff to the football stadium, and now the practice facility.  Winning involves more than talent and training. It’s a mindset, a passionate focus that gives competitors the clarity and brilliance to see more, do more, and accomplish more in the brief moments of competition. Achieving that higher state can get a significant boost with the right ambiance.

While genetics certainly has a role in elite athletic achievement, the needle of scientific research is beginning to turn towards the environment more and more towards environmental factors. Performance predisposition can be a genetic trait, but only practice and training unlock the attributes contained in those genetics. And the right training facility, positive attitude, and support network are necessary to sustain that intensity of training over the long haul. Winning it all takes a strong commitment.  The  LA Rams are proving that they are committed.
